Hi!, I’m Melanie

As an Art Psychotherapist (Provisional) and Licensed Counselor with over 11 years of experience, I’ve had the privilege of guiding individuals and families through some of life’s most challenging emotional landscapes. I hold a Bachelor’s in Psychology, a Master’s in Counseling Psychology, and a Master’s in Art Therapy, with a certificate in expressive art therapies. My passion lies in working with those who feel overwhelmed, misunderstood, or weighed down by trauma, anxiety, and depression.

Throughout my career, I’ve supported children and teens navigating adoption issues, trauma, and behavioral challenges. I’ve used creative activities to help them express their emotions and build the coping skills they need to thrive. I’ve also facilitated groups for teenage girls dealing with anxiety, depression, and family conflict, offering them a safe space to process their experiences and connect with others who understand their struggles. My work spans across schools, private practice, and virtual settings, where I integrate cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and creative arts to tailor each client’s journey to their unique needs.

But my love for art therapy goes beyond my professional qualifications—it’s deeply personal.

Growing up in a dysfunctional environment, I often felt lost in my emotions, unable to articulate what I was feeling or why. Art became my refuge. When words failed me, painting and drawing offered a safe space to explore my inner world. Each brushstroke helped me make sense of the chaos around me, and through creativity, I found clarity and comfort. What started as a personal coping mechanism turned into a passion, shaping my identity and fueling my desire to help others in similar situations.

This transformative experience led me to pursue a career in art therapy, where I could guide others in using creativity as a powerful tool for emotional healing. I believe in celebrating neurodiversity and embracing the idea that there is no one "right" way to navigate life’s challenges. My approach focuses on helping clients recognize their strengths, process their experiences, and develop creative self-care practices that allow them to thrive.

Alongside my professional practice, I personally enjoy abstract painting and mixed media art, which continue to provide me with an avenue for self-expression and growth. These forms of art remind me that healing is not a linear process but a colorful and evolving journey.
